HELP US TOWARD OWNING OUR FOREVER HOME!
Raised $62,302 of $300,000
Every dollar helps restore our historic building, repair recent water damage from roof leaks, and pay down the mortgage on the building. Your gift will be added to all regular revenue that can be invested in the building, ensuring that Fresno Ideaworks remains and improves. Thousands of creative people from Fresno and all around the Central Valley have visited Fresno Ideaworks over the past 14 years, and many have come to think of it as a second home where creativity is nurtured and blooms. We are determined to remain in downtown Fresno, and we welcome your support!
"Having recently moved back to Fresno I needed a space to creatively express myself and Ideaworks is the perfect place. I have been able keep skills up to date and learn new competencies to apply to projects I am working on. The space with all it's various mediums (wood shop, modern fab, welding, textiles, and ceramics) and the communities of each shop offer perspectives to help tackle any issues I would encounter during a project. I'm glad I found Fresno Ideaworks because it provides me a workspace with a community to help grow my skills. The collaborative nature of the workshop has been great for any roadblocks I encounter during a project that is hard to replicate. The community to the shop space accessibility makes staying in Fresno long term appealing. -RB"

Our Makerspace

Fresno's Maker community makes it's home at 1730 H Street in downtown Fresno, California, in the historic "Crown Plunge" building. Built in 1928 by Clyde and Lloyd Jackson and managed by Reg Dauner, the Crown Plunge was the longest-operating swimming pool in Fresno when it closed in 1847. After removing the tank and installing their printing and engraving business, the Crown Plunge building remained in the Jackson family until 2018, when Fresno Ideaworks agreed to purchase it and create a permanent home for Fresno Ideaworks. Since then we have worked diligently to maintain our comprehensive woodshop, "weldatorium", machine shop, tech classroom & hackerspace, ceramics studio, textiles & fiber arts studio, modern fabrications lab, lampwork (torch flamework) glass art station, and stained glass station, as well as open shop nights in tech, ceramics, textiles, glass, and live model drawing.  Stay tuned for more as we grow and evolve!

Welcome to Lampwork Glass Art, where we're turning up the heat to create some incredible pieces! In this relaxed and hands-on class, we'll explore the basics of lampworking and send you home with something entrancing of your own making.

In this hands-on, beginner-friendly class you will learn to melt borosilicate glass on an oxygen-propane torch and sculpt it into colorful pendants. Emily will demonstrate how to shape the hot glass using metal and graphite tools and use brass stamps to add a variety of patterns and textures. Students will have the opportunity to make several pendants in their choice of colors and patterns. The pendants will anneal in the kiln overnight and will be ready to pick up the next day.

Students should bring a water bottle and wear natural fibers and closed-toed shoes.

        • In this 4 hour workshop we'll start with the do's and don'ts, throw on some safety glasses, and ensure our workspace is good to go.
        • Wondering what those colorful glass rods are all about? We'll take a look at the essential tools – torches, brass stamps, and shaping gear – that turn those rods into artistic wonders.
        • Your instructor, local artist Emily Johnsen, will showcase the craft – melting, shaping, and transforming glass into some seriously awesome shapes.
        • Then you’ll dive in! It's your turn to grab the torch (figuratively) and start crafting your own beginner-friendly project as you try the layering, mixing, shaping and stamping that will make your glass pieces stand out.
        • Finally, you’ll find out how to cool and anneal your pieces properly to keep them looking fantastic.

Whether you're a complete beginner or looking to hone your skills, this lampwork class is all about enjoying the process while crafting some impressive art. Let the fiery adventure begin!

        Important stuff:

        • No open toe shoes (anywhere in the facility)

        • Currently face masks are recommended but not required in the facility. A cotton cloth mask is safest around open flame. Your instructor will explain the safe use of face masks around torches.

          End Grain Cutting Board Workshop

Craft a stunning, heirloom-quality cutting board that’s as functional as it is beautiful. In this hands-on workshop, you’ll design and build your own end grain cutting board using a curated selection of premium hardwoods.

Guided by an experienced instructor, you’ll learn techniques for cutting, glue-ups, clamping, sanding, and pattern design—transforming raw materials into a striking, custom piece perfect for your kitchen or as a gift.

This workshop is ideal for makers looking to expand their skills and create something truly unique.

Walk away with a one-of-a-kind cutting board, new woodworking skills, and the confidence to tackle future projects.

All materials are included—just bring your creativity!

**Please note that, because of the limited variety of tools and machines used for this project, participants in the cutting board workshop do not qualify for a one-month conditional membership. For the same reason, this workshop is not a substitute for the beginner/refresher/safety woodshop class, necessary for approval to work unsupervised in the woodshop.

This is an introductory course on how to use the CNC machine with an emphasis on safety. In this class, you will examine the entire work flow of the CNC process, learn how to import geometry, investigate certain editing techniques, and the necessary requirements to create the g-code for tool calibration.  This final process will include setting feed and speed, how to input specifications of the raw material, etc. Finally, students will be able learn how to setup the device, how to load and secure materials, and how to set the home position and run a simple job.  This introductory class does not include any Computer Aided Design (CAD) instruction.
