The 13th of January, 2018, was a milestone day for Ideaworks Makerspaces! On that day two dozen member volunteers rallied with tools, trucks, muscles, ingenuity, a gallon of coffee, and lots of enthusiasm to demolish the interior of our new Clovis shop. Ideaworks' first satellite space is part of the Clovis Veterans Memorial District complex, where we are proud to be working in tandem with the CVMD to fulfill their mission to provide local veterans with facilities and support.
No longer just a dream of a hacker space, Ideaworks Makerspaces can now offer so much more: more tools, shop space, classes and social opportunities to more makers in more neighborhoods:
We didn't quite know what to expect on Demo Day, but destruction is just as much fun as making sometimes, and our volunteer crew approached each task with typical curiosity and energy, and a good dose of humor:
Interior walls were removed with care and, under the guidance of Matt E. and Jackie H., more than 500 feet of good lumber was salvaged for the Habitat for Humanity Restore, and still more usable material was saved for member projects:
Many hands make light work, and even the smallest hands had plenty to do on Demo Day. For hours the kids willingly did their share of lifting, carrying, sorting, and collecting nails and screws:
By the time the pizza and coffee were gone, so was the debris:
And you can tell by the stars in Angela's well-protected eyes that she's excited about what we'll put in this space! There's no limit to the makerly stuff we can do:
Stay tuned for news and information about the progress of the Clovis shop, as well as renovations of the Fresno Broadway shop. Momentum is building and we can tell that 2018 is going to be an incredible year!
Thank you, volunteers! Chris I., Josh H., William H., Daniel T., Leonard P., Daniel D., Jeremy S., Alec P., Bill F., Angela C., Sanjiv K., Paul S., Steve, River and Zoya P., Jackie H., Danny O., Matt N., Matt E. and Ebony E., Ron B., and everyone else whose names weren't written down: it's each and every one of you that makes Ideaworks Makerspaces a real community.
If you haven't joined us yet visit soon at an event, class, workshop, or ArtHop. We're looking forward to meeting you!
